tommy want wingy

for those of you who are wondering, tommy has made a full recovery.  from lame gimpy boar on his death bed to fat cat mud chiller, living the good life once again.

tommy sleeps, eats, and fucks.  usually in reverse order.

Birthday!

the piglet’s celebrate their two and a half week old birthday today by, well, doing the same exact thing they do every day.

bright future ahead though, with a lot of changes to come.  next week we will transition them onto their normal ration, and soon after they will be living up with the big boys on the top of the hill.

moving of the cows

moving the cows, one of my daily chores, is one of the most enjoyable parts of the day.  the sounds are quiet—just me and them.  building temporary paddocks—all sized differently based on a subjective scale which factors weather, terrain, the herd, and my own schedule all into consideration.  it’s problem solving, just like in middle school math.  herd “a” times days “y” divided by cows “w” minus my personal schedule “x” to the power of “g” grass.  A x Y / W - X  ^g = how to move the cows.  it’s science.

bar harbor: not just a clever name.

bar harbor, maine, for a long weekend with my nearest and dearest, and the salty mountain air goes to work exfoliating skin cracked by that red georgia clay.  the weather was mild and blissful, but it gave me a taste of one of those seventy eight degree cold fronts my seasonal ny/florida grandparents always complain about.  after a few months in georgia, sweating it out at a hundred degrees, maine quickly turned me into an old man in long pants on the hottest day of the year.

a raucous week long wedding celebration for everyone’s favorite love birds has me recovering still today.  after a round of morning chore’s—feeding the pigs, moving the cows—i’ve crawled into a small hole to recharge before tomorrow’s harvest.  below are two shots from this morning that really crack me up.  my faithful hound dog moses, helping out with the cow’s, sit’s frozen  underneath one of the temporary fences i crossed—smart fella-and the herd becomes interested.

you're a star

today the very talented, atlanta based photographer jake herrle joined us on pch and produced this awesome looking shot.  click the link to his website to marvel at the faces he’s captured in his portfolio (all human, and mostly famous, not counting this one).  it’s most definitely worth your time.

the pig photo shoot was hilarious, yet pretty difficult.  that’s me in the straw hat, the jackelope trying to convince a pig to strike a pose.
